Ok, so I don’t catch every album before their release date. When you have so many albums thrown at you at once, it’s like The Matrix bullet-time dodging ninja stars. But, I do have to admit, it’s pretty cool when one you missed loops back and hits you in the earhole… and it ends up being pretty fucking awesome! The Drowns may just be one of my new favorites. I’m going to sing the highest praises for the vocals. They are fucking perfect on this album. Now, I will admit that I don’t know much about the band. Is there two voices, or one singer switching up his style? See? That’s part of what makes this album exciting for me, because it’s all new to me, and I love it! Both styles of vocals work well, but the deeper, and a bit gruff, style is one I automatically respond to. Put those lyrics over high energy, and very well produced punk rock n roll, and you got some solid noise happening. For someone who prefers more raw and dirty music on his day to day, The Drowns give me enough low end to play the shit outta this mainly because of the vocals. Before I sound like I don’t have much to say about the actual music, just know that this album is chocked full of catchy material. No complaints here. Their version of “Harder They Come” is really quite good, but I’m really impressed with the originals. My favorites are “Wastin’ Time”, “Them Rats”, and “Hold Fast”… and as for the 2nd voice I spoke of? “Cue The Violins” is a great tune. This is plainly just a great fuckin album and you can get it at Pirates Press Records. It released on Jan. 17th, so get it. You won’t be sorry. It’s got a bit of something for all punk rock fans…. listen to Hold Fast here: https://youtu.be/5J5HxrcVrXw
